Egder - Egg Shaped Kitchen Timer 2012
The Brief: Redesign a simple kitchen timer with a new shape.

Design Considerations: The exact spatial dimensions for the circuit board and the space for the AAA batteries for power must be incorporated into the design. ABS plastic is the material that will be used for rapid prototyping. The design should be able to rest or stand on flat surfaces. The design should be portable.

Process: Firstly the original DIY timer was provided in order to understand the inner components and spacing. Design ideas for the exterior were explored. The final one was chosen, approved and developed on.

Outcome: A fried egg shape was chosen and rapid prototyped. This design allows the user to keep the timer on surfaces and also to hang it if required.Due to the constraint on material for the rapid prototyping, a few design modifications were made (cut outs on the back covering). If more freedom was given with the amount of material, I would have added a back stand and a magnetic strip at the back as well.
